Functional fitness is a type of exercise and training approach that focuses on improving an individual's ability to perform everyday tasks and activities effectively and safely. Utilizing a similar format to the well known CrossFit workouts, Olympus workouts will combine a strength piece that includes a barbell movement and a conditioning aspect. The conditioning pieces to the workouts can include anything from HIIT to a timed "for rounds or reps" workout. Olympus programming is specifically designed for all around strength, injury prevention and of course a good cardio burn to finish. The primary goal of functional fitness is to enhance overall functional capacity, which includes strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and endurance, all in the context of real-life movements and activities.
Key aspects of functional fitness include:
Multi-Joint Movements: Functional fitness exercises often involve compound movements that engage multiple muscle groups and joints simultaneously, mimicking natural body movements.Varied Workouts: Functional fitness programs often involve a variety of exercises and training modalities, such as bodyweight exercises, free weights, resistance bands, kettlebells, and functional training equipment like suspension trainers and medicine balls. |
Core Strength: Core stability and strength are essential in functional fitness because they support and stabilize the spine during various movements.Scalability: Functional fitness routines can be adapted to suit individuals of different fitness levels, making it accessible to both beginners and advanced athletes. |
Balance and Coordination: Many functional fitness routines incorporate balance and coordination exercises to improve agility and prevent falls.Injury Prevention: By improving strength, flexibility, and stability in a functional context, this type of training can help reduce the risk of injuries, especially in activities or sports that involve complex movements. |
Functional Movements: Functional fitness emphasizes movements that are relevant to daily life, such as bending, lifting, twisting, and reaching. This helps individuals better prepare for the physical demands of their everyday activities. |
Functional fitness can benefit people of all ages and fitness levels. It is often used in rehabilitation settings to help individuals recover from injuries or surgeries, as well as by athletes and fitness enthusiasts looking to enhance their overall physical performance and quality of life. Workouts can be customized to target specific goals, such as improving sports performance, enhancing mobility, or maintaining functional independence as people age.

Is Performance Fitness Right For You?
Starting or changing your exercise routine can be intimidating. You may fear that you’re going to get injured. Or even worse, you may assume that because you have an injury or limitation that you would be hassle to an instructor.
Is that how you’re feeling right now?
If so, you’re not alone. In fact, everyday at Olympus Movement Performance we help people in North County San Diego who feel this way.
You see, with fitness goals, everyone says and asks the same things….
I’m bored with my normal workout routine….
I want to try classes, but think I need to get in shape first….
I have injuries and limitations and I wouldn’t be able to do all those things…
My doctor told me not to squat….
Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad information out there that cause people to get injured or feel they are inadequate to start fitness classes. Here are the most common mistakes we see the people of North County making when it comes to workouts…
Mistake #1: Following an online or video program with no supervision.
Mistake #2: Wandering around a gym going from one exercise machine to another.
Mistake #3: Believing that using any kind of weights in a workout will cause injury.
Mistake #4: Not doing anything because of fear or injuries
Have you been making these mistakes?
If any of this has happened to you, we want to say “we are sorry”… but remind you that you’re not alone.
In fact, we see people just like you every day.
And that’s why we’ve created a free Ebook for you. It goes over how our Performance Fitness classes are different from others and how if you have an injury or limitation, you can still get a good safe workout in for yourself. You can click the link below to download it.
But maybe you feel like you’ve read a lot of free information on the internet, and really just want to talk to someone.
Is that you?
If so, then we have a special opportunity for you (one that VERY FEW clinics offer).
We save a limited number of spots each week for time for people who are not sure what to o about their workout routine.
That way, you can tell a professional your story, and get your question answered first, before ever making a commitment to book an appointment.
Does that sound like something you would like to do?
Here’s the most important thing….
Most people get stuck trying to make a decision about what to do next.
They go days, weeks, months ( even years!) without taking action.
The one thing we can guarantee is that by doing nothing, your fitness won’t get better.
So the next important thing is to take action.

"Olympus is the best fitness facility I have been too, and I’ve tried my fair share. Annemarie and Britt are amazing instructors and take the time to connect with each one of us. They’re there to make sure you are properly doing each exercise, and there to offer a modification if needed. As someone who struggles with a previous knee injury there is no exercise that can’t be modified, and they make sure that everyone has an option no matter your what your skill level or injury may be. Every day is a new challenge with different exercises. I like that the class incorporates more than just your typical circuit workout and every week your building on your strength. Stretching, movement prep, Strength and ends with varied circuit type training. In the year that I have been going to Olympus I have made great improvements with my fitness. I was not a fan of working out, but I now can’t wait to get back in the gym each day all thanks to Annemarie & Britt and their continued encouragement, and support."
