The camp was directed by Paul Romero: World-Renowned Athlete Mentor and Coach, who has competed and hit the podium in over 100 expedition adventure races on 5 continents for the last 12 years, climbed the 7 summits with his son, Jordan, and has been exposed to some of the most grueling ultra-competitions in the world. Accompanying Paul, was Lead Coach, Scott Jurek: World-Renowned Ultramarathon Champion and author of “Eat and Run.” Scott’s resume includes victories in nearly all of ultrarunning's elite trail and road events, including the historic 153-mile Spartathlon, the Hardrock 100, the Badwater 135-mile Ultramarathon, the Miwok 100K, and—his signature race—the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, which he won a record seven straight times.
On top of the world- class trail running coaches that the athletes were led by, they were also supported with one of the best physio and mobility teams ever assembled. This team included Jessi Stensland, a former pro athlete herself, educated all Uprise athletes on the importance of kinetic linking thru the core and how the foot/ ankle complex is the key for trail running success. Silas Wiefelspuett, an elite trail runner himself, and a local Canadian physio blew campers away with his dry needling treatment and joined forces with Olympus to perform full functional movement screens and prescription of corrective exercise strategies to all athletes. The Physio/ Mobility team took all Uprise athletes thru pre-race movement preparation, post race recovery stretches; and full self myofascial release education and activation prior to our huge 22k trail run. Uprise Performance Camp athletes were also fully supported by Peak Centre Vancouver for thorough testing and education of VO2 max, blood lactates and all prescribed full zone training for optimal performance. All runners also received video running gait analysis and footbed advice and education from Kintec Footwear and Orthotics. EVERY aspect of an elite athletes life was provided by the Uprise Performance Camps Trail Running Experience.
In addition to trail run coaching, mentoring, physio, mobility, and testing analysis; athletes were educated by Paul and Scott on nutrition 101 for life, hydration strategies for training and racing, and full prep for race day fueling and supplementation. We all followed a clean and lean nutrition/ meal plan all weekend with all meals prepared perfectly by the Four Seasons Resorts top chef.
What could be better than all of the above?? Well the best part of the entire camp, hands-down…. THE TRAIL RUNNING IN THE MOUNTAINS OF WHISTLER-BLACKCOMB--- ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE! Saturday, the entire UPrise team of athletes and coaches participated in the 5 Peaks 11k Trail Running Race. Coaches Paul and Scott ran, supported, and coached all of the athletes throughout the race. The Uprise Team placed 5 athletes on the podium! Sunday was followed by a 22km trail run that started at the top of Whistler Peak with a full decend back down to the base, with the most stunning views and trails you have ever seen… snow- capped mountains, glacier lakes, technical trails, forests, streams- just beautiful.
This weekend Trail Running experience was more than anyone could ever dream of. All athletes went home with the biggest ‘swag-bags’ of product one could ever want; powered by- Feed the Machine, MDrive, Sole, Clif Bar, Ultimate Direction, Brooks, Helly Hansen, and Ra+. Oh yeah, one more thing, the ENTIRE experience was shot and filmed by Pacer Films- Jeff Pelletier, one of BC’s top trail runners, with photos and video coming soon.
Olympus Movement and Mobility is so honored to have been a part of this initial Uprise Trail Running experience and we can’t wait to support all the upcoming Uprise Training Camps. Stay tuned for more updates in the near future.
